Yes for the 4th year running summer is going to be wall to wall
flat out crit's. Just how I like it!! Having just been to Stoke for
the series launch and final venue unveiling (report)
I was talking with my Mum an Dad recently (biggest fans after Jayne
:-) ) it came up the subject of statistics and so we
looked
back and I can say I was surprised to see the figures, here we
go.
In 3 years of events, 2009 (Halfords) 2010 (Endura) 2011(Endura) a total of 28 rounds, I have ridden in 26 only missing the 1st and 2nd ever rounds, away doing the RAS in Ireland. And of those 26 races..
And so into 2012's 11 rounds I now need to keep my end up and help Endura Racing try to win the series and as many rounds as possible. In 2011 Rapha put in a totally dedicated squad for the series and it paid off. This year Endura may have a similar plan but other teams too have beefed up with National champs from America, New Zealand, Australia, Britain!!... its gonna be the toughest series yet to try and win.
I better get out an do some sprints practice....

A long weekend away in Britanny, France for two French cup races. As named above, both 200km there abouts and on some very undulating terrain. Saturday was raced only on tarmac and Johnny Mac did a great ride for 3rd meanwhile I had a rubbish day getting dropped before the feed and DNF.
Sunday was my real ambition though, as the 207km contained 30+km
of offroad sectors. Blain was also really really up for this one
and was leader so I wanted to help him out as much as possible. In
real windy conditions I rode well, with no punctures (helped by
some 28mm! contis) got Blain into the finale in the front group
where he was in for a top 5 chance but punctured inside 10km to go
and wasted his sprint effort getting back on. Still the task was
completed and you can never calculate for a puncture. Sorry for you
buddy but awesome ride anyway.

It could only be better this year for me after breaking my collar bone last year on the first road stage. Indeed the unprecedented great weather every day was a massive boost though on the down side it limited the opportunities for Endura Racing to make the race hard in cross winds. The only chances left were through sheer class, speed and excellence!!! Ha-ha.
So this 7 day, 8 stage race was a good hunting ground for me and the boys. Starting the race with a bad chest coughing up chunks was not the best, but the short Prologue TT got most riders lungs damaged I’m sure. I did an ok TT, 7 secs away from top 10 so I was happy. Day 2 was 200km and the stage I crashed on last year, so it was with pleasure I rode to limit a breakaway's time gap and roll in at the back of the bunch checking out the scene of the crime at 400m to go. I got safely home and was well motivated for the rest of the race.
Tues 20th was a split day and a very early wake up call for 9 am stage start, though gorgeous weather made it bearable. It was this morning where I made my mark, jumping into a 5 man move in the opening 10km. A good strong group, we powered on over a couple of KOM’s and shed 1 rider, the pace too hot! Indeed it was only as we entered the last km that a bit of cat and mouse started, and from it all I picked the winner as I followed Astana till 150 to go and launched the winning bid, crossing the line arms up. Amazing. Well, well pleased. 1hr 15 for the 61km, 48.6kph ave. That’s trucking! A podium appearance along with flowers and a nice hamper of local produce. The perfect mother’s day gifts.... I also got myself the race Eco jersey for keeping race litter in my pockets. Actually a pretty cool thing as I do believe that riders should keep packets and wrappers in pockets rather than dropping them, or throwing them in a feed where they can easily be picked up. We all hate the horrible people that post Mc Donald’s shit through car windows, so why should we throw litter just because we're racing!!
Anyways, a short interlude for dinner and sleep then the afternoon 100km stage, which was mental from start to finish. Much harder with hills and some wind, J Mac and Thwaitsy rocked 6th and 7th I think, just blocked by traffic. Good ride on the tough run in.
The rest of the race was a worker roll for me, helping the others as best as possible - usually onto a finish circuit and the boys did awesome. Eric smoked the field on a very tough 190km into Fleurs with the 2nd win for the team.
Brilliant ride holding the field off for 7km! Nice one. Then it was Rob P’s turn to ride well, with 5th on a super tough 160km stage on Friday, with 2 riders still away he made it into a 4 man group with 3km to go.
Last few days I was feeling it in my legs and hid a bit but the
last stage was a bit more my cup of tea as it was a flat 3km finish
circuit. Riding for J.Mac we so nearly did it as he was in a photo
finish, so close but 2nd. Great effort pal. With Scott
4th and the Blain Pain Train 6th a blanket
finish that would of netted a good tour series win! We ended the
race as best team on the stage and quite possibly the best team
performance across the race.
Top work Endura Racing.
This year will see me aboard a lovely light, stiff stealth
looking Giant. Not sure what it is but its carbon and its light and
so far it seems pretty damb fast. Guess it's up to me now to power
it to glory! Some pics below.
New logo's are go. Looking pretty cool I think and some positive feedback already.
Thanks to Joolze D for working them out of
a number of samples.
